DESCRIPTION

Reconversion of a former airport into an urban agricultural park.

CONCEPT

The challenge of the reconversion of this space in an urban agricultural park is to integrate leisure, people’s interest in growing their own food and protection of biodiversity while (re)creating pedestrian linkages in a very unique setting: the former Gatow Airport. First used by the Luftwaffe and then by the British Royal Airforce, this enclosed space still presents traces of landing paths and a shooting field while offering long views towards Berlin and the surrounding forests.

Reconversion d’un ancien aéroport en parc urbain agricole.

CONCEPT

Le challenge posé par la reconversion de cet espace en parc urbain agricole est d’intégrer loisirs, intérêt des usagers à faire pousser leurs propres légumes et protéger la biodiversité tout en (re)créant des liaisons piétonnes dans un contexte exceptionnel : l’ancien aéroport de Gatow. Tout d’abord utilisé par la Luftwaffe puis la RAF, cet espace clos présente encore des restes de pistes d’atterrissage ainsi qu’un champs de tir pour chars tout en offrant de longues perspectives sur Berlin et les forêts environnantes.
